I hope for the day that the college football playoff expands to a group stage like the World Cup (soccer) basically there will be 5 groups (A-E) and the p5 conference champions will automatically qualify for the top spot as well as include the closest FBS school in the city where the national championship will take place in (may be a bad idea to y’all but whatever) and the conference champions for the g5 conferences will also qualify. Runner ups can qualify as long as their record is at least 10-2 as the 3rd place in their respective group. For everyone else, 8-4 is the minimum to qualify for this proposed playoff. A draw selection will be held to determine which teams will go on which group the runner up and the teams that didn’t play a conference championship. As for automatic qualifiers they will be placed in alphabetical order. (ex: group A will have the ACC champion and the AAC champion as well, and so on). As for the number of teams that can be in the playoff, it should be between 4-8 teams per group. The top 2 teams in a 4 team group will advance to the round of 16. In an eight team group, the top four will advance into the next round which is 32 teams and so on. It’s basically march madness or the World Cup but for college football 😄
